RE: Amazon Flex issues in Southern CA stations

Dear Mr. Bezos,

First, I want to congratulate you on your recent divorce from Mackenzie who gave you her 25% without creating a legal fight. Now you control 75% of Amazon shares, which is equal to a 12% stake in the company and more power to you, Sir.

Again congratulations to be another Steve Jobs genius with so many ventures and becoming one of the billionaires of the world.

However, my reason for contacting you is because I have been a partner with your company as an individual and company. Yes I have two dba partnerships with your company. You can visit them at www.diversitynewsmagazine.org and www.diversitynewspublications.com

Unfortunately, Google changed the rules so money has been very slow. You can’t even survive with the pennies they pay you for displaying ads. You as publisher of the Washinghton Post must know it since print is almost dead and online is having much competition and revenue has decreased. The cost of living keeps increasing every year and salaries are not.

So I joined your Amazon Flex program on May 2018, and sometimes it is great but there are no benefits and lots of gas expenses and car wear and tear. I’m not sure if you know how your stations were set up but I will give you a brief summary. In the Los Angeles County, you have East Los Angeles (DLA3) – Commerce area, Rosemead (DPS1) – El Monte area, Hawthorne – LAX area, Chino, Canoga Park – San Fernando Valley area, Irvine – Orange County area.

As you may see what motivates a person to sign up for Amazon Flex is the area they are supposed to be serving. I signed up with Amazon Flex when I was living in Cudahy, CA. At the time I got Palm Springs which is very far. However later I found out about Canoga Park. I went and I did two blocks the same day. Later I found there was one in East Los Angeles – Commerce area. I contacted support and they did the change and said that the program was open to regions and  I didn’t need to switch because it would show up on the app.

My Amazon Flex app is set to Greater Los Angeles region. So I started to do East LA, Rosemead, Irvine and Chino stations.

Here is the issue that needs to be fixed at your stations. Last year I started to get routes from Rosemead to Orange County. I did some but because I do have a life and live in the San Gabriel Valley area I expect to work in the area not be sent over 30 miles to Orange County where I have no business to do. So I have declined a couple of blocks. Because your staff at the station is unprofessional and uncooperative I have been trying other stations like East LA. Well they are doing the same thing sending a person away from the area. I’m not sure if you know what is considered East LA area? Or San Gabriel Valley area?

Please visit Wikipedia to learn https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Gabriel_Valley

However I will cut and paste some of the source information here: The San Gabriel Valley is in Los Angeles County. The incorporated cities and unincorporated neighborhoods of the San Gabriel Valley include: Altadena, Alhambral, Arcadia, Avocado Heights, Azusa, Baldwin Park, Bassett, Bradbury, Charter Oak, Citrus, City of Industry, Claremont, Covina, Diamond Bar, Duarte, East Pasadena,l El Monte, Glendora, Hacienda Heights, Hillgrove, Irwindale, La Puente, La Verne, Los Angeles (El Sereno)

Here is another source by Wikipedia: City of Los Angeles neighborhoods of the San Fernando Valley

Arleta, Cahuenga Pass, Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Encino, Granada Hills, La Tuna Canyon

Lake Balboa, Lake View Terrace, Mission Hills, NoHo Arts District, North Hills, North Hollywood, Northridge, Pacoima, Panorama City, Porter Ranch, Reseda, Shadow Hills+, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Sun Valley, Sunland-Tujunga+, Sylmar, Tarzana, Toluca Lake, Valley Glen, Valley Village, Van Nuys, Warner Center, West Hills, Winnetka, Woodland Hills

Dear Mr. Bezos, I can go on and on but you know with the current gas prices and because we have a life and your organization management decided to hire Vans and provide to them over $300K earnings per year, they even get uniforms, cellphones allowance and lots of other business perks, while the individual flex driver does not. Those Amazon business partners must and should do the long distance, big packages and downtown traffic cities like downtown la because they getting better compensation and they are business owners whom need to get the appropriate permits to park or drive in downtown cities. (Please see brochure attached).

I honestly have been telling your staff to give those jobs to your business partners not us the individual partners that we have a life in the neighborhood we live in. We do things in our neighborhood, like doctor appointments, taking care of family, school etc.

Today the East LA station was sending me to Long Beach. Give me a break I don’t know the area well, nor do I have any business to do there. Do you know that some cities have been issuing us parking tickets? We have to deal with it. In the past Rosemead has sent us to La Habra, Fullerton those areas are Orange County which belongs to Irvine station. Rosemead has sent us to North Hollywood, Compton! North Hollywood belongs to Canoga Park and Compton belongs to Hawthorne stations.

Your management needs training in geography and needs to be more human understanding. By the way they can save your company lots of $$$$$ if they stop doing that because that makes us go over the block time and your company needs to pay extra money. On many occasions we don’t get compensated for going over our block time. You know gas prices are ridiculously high and of course we are using our own personal resources to be able to complete the job.

Another thing I want to bring to your attention is that they are not even paying surge time at all the stations. Some of us even work on hot days, cold days and nights and even rainy days. We even work on weekends, as well as holidays and there is no extra compensation for working those days. We don’t get lunches or breaks. On top of that we have to deal with parking enforcement people because we have no special permit like others like Uber and Lyft whom are more respectable by government authorities.

As CEO and Executive that you are. I know you want to get paid for working those days or those hours or just take them off to enjoy your life. Another thing we don’t get pay benefits like sick days, health insurance, workers compensation etc.

So as independent contractors the individual flex drivers should get compensated better because we are using our own tools to complete the job. Also incentives should be automatically emailed to those individual Amazon Flex drivers that are meeting 100% of the job per the Amazon Flex Weekly Summary which includes the following categories: Reliability and Delivery Quality. Those individual flex drivers should get a bonus at the end of the Weekly Summary for doing 100% of the job. That will keep us (them) motivated to work for your company.

Your stations management and its staff keep sending us to different locations all the time, do you know that is better and faster for us to do the job in areas that we know already. I know you and your staff care about the customers which is priority number 1. I am a customer myself too. I know some customers want to too much from us the Flex drivers and they will make complaints because we don’t have time to socialize with them. Our minds are set to do the job fast and take the next block to make more money for us and you.

Let’s be honest here. How did you become one of the billionaires of the world? The answer is simple thanks to the customers, the business owners, the partners, vendors, working force etc. Without the collaboration or partnership you would not have become a billionaire so fast. So let’s fix what is broken and continue a great partnership that will benefit all.

Your Amazon station management and its staff needs to be trained about the different partnerships that your company has. I know the investors and board of directors are expecting a great return on their investment. Otherwise they make take their money away and your company couldn’t grow and become number one in the United States.

Also communicate with your staff that those automatic nasty email letters sometimes may not be necessary and to cease to use them.

FYI, recently the Superior Court of the County of Los Angeles ruled in favor of independent contractors that a company like you can not set quotas or force an independent contractor to do something that they don’t wish because that will make us your employees. I don’t mind becoming an Amazon employee so if that what you want let your management to do so.

Here is the Los Angeles Times article on the recent court ruling https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-independent-contract-20180430-story.html Also read https://www.jurist.org/news/2018/05/california-supreme-court-makes-it-harder-to-classify-workers-as-independent-contractors/

Breaking News: Some of your current employees are trying to file a class action lawsuit against Amazon and they are reaching out to us as well the independent Amazon flex to join. I haven’t taken any action but perhaps I should?

Come on, let’s be human here and not abuse each others resources and use the current resources you have.

Anyway, I hope to hear from you soon and I hope some action will be taken immediately across North, South, East and West CA.

I also think Amazon should create the following positions: Amazon Flex Liaison and have a liaison for each Amazon station to work problems with the individual Amazon Flex partners, so they can go back and forth to resolve issues with station management and it is staff.

Like I said in my letter, I don’t mind joining the team, if you need my brain and help to make things smoother within your company. I don’t mind submitting my resume but, I think you can ask your staff to google myself and they can find out my skills and experience but I can share with you that I have over 12 years experience in Finance/Healthcare within the AR (Account Receivables). I also have over 10 years experience in the publishing media industry. Now I have experience in the logistics thanks to your company. As well I have skills and experience in marketing and public relations.

It is hard to survive when things are keep going up and salaries are very low. You are fortunate for having a great mind to create a fortune for yourself and loved ones.

Mr. Bezos, I hope to hear from you soon and I am honored to have you read and respond to my letter.
