Tips and Tricks to Make you a Better Date
Dating can be quite a challenge for some people, especially if they’ve been out of the dating scene for a while.
Of course, there can be many reasons why you might be out of dating practice. Perhaps you’ve been single for a long time and now decided to change that, or maybe you were in a long-term relationship that’s only recently come to an end.
Either way, the prospect of going through those early dating experiences again can be quite scary. It’s almost like having to go through those awkward teenage years all over again.
One thing that definitely won’t help you in today’s dating world is a lack of confidence. So, why not take a look at the ideas below on how to boost your dating confidence before you dive back into it all?
There are some basic principles when it comes to dating that will help anyone who’s looking for love.
1. Be honest
We all learn as kids that we should always tell the truth, so why treat dating any differently? You may want to pretend you’re a bit younger than you are, or that your job’s a bit more high-powered than it actually is, but if the person you meet on a date becomes a part of your life, will you want to keep up the fibs?
Being honest about who you are and what you believe in will allow you to be more confident – and that in turn will make you more appealing to any potential partner.
2. Don’t let your expectations get out of control
It might be nice to meet the person of your dreams on that first date, but realistically, it’s a slim chance. You might have better odds with the lottery! So instead of putting too much hope on a date, treat it as a social event – a way to meet someone new and have some fun. If it turns out to be the beginning of a new relationship, that’s great. If not, you haven’t lost anything, and you’ll have gotten some dating practice under your belt, ready for the next one.
3. Learn to read the signs
Sometimes, people are so keen for a date to work out well that it’s almost as if they have blinkers on and miss the signals the other person is giving them. Learn to read the signs of what your date thinks of you. The way someone looks at you while you’re talking, the way they move their hands or choose to sit, can all be indications of how they feel about you.
4. Remember, it’s not all about you
People going on a date often focus on what the other person will think of them, and consequently can get quite anxious about what kind of impression they’ll make. To help avoid this, think about what you want to know about your date. What do they do for a living, what do they like doing in their spare time, where would their dream vacation take them? However, you don’t spend the whole night just quizzing each other – so perhaps have a couple of current affairs topics in mind to discuss – it’ll take the pressure off you both.
The most useful advice for anyone going out on a date is to relax and just be yourself. That way, whoever you’re meeting will get to spend a nice evening with you, and get to know you. Wherever the date takes you, it’ll be some dating practice and that experience will be useful for any future dates.
