Celebrities, elected leaders, and 20,000 other caring people united to raise funds for much needed HIV/AIDS services and prevention programs.
On Sunday, October 11, 2015, MZA Events held their 31st annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles in West Hollywood Park at 647 N San Vicente Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
More than 20, 0000 caring celebrities, elected leaders, corporations, small business and caring participants showed unity to raise funds, education, find the cure for HIV/AIDS and awareness for our next generations with new services and prevention programs.
“Today’s high temperatures did not stop our supporters from turning out in massive numbers and raising $2,375,946,” said AIDS Walk Founder and Senior Organizer Craig R. Miller.“Just as they have since the beginning of the epidemic, this inspiring community continues to manifest the commitment, compassion, and power necessary to end AIDS, regardless of the political, epidemiological, or literal climate. AIDS Walk supporters are anything but fair-weather friends. They tough it out with us year after year, no matter what.”
“We are incredibly thankful for everyone who raised funds, showed up this morning, and braved the heat to do the Walk with us,” APLA Chief Executive Officer Craig E. Thompson said. “We are at a pivotal moment in the epidemic. The funds raised through the Walk give us an opportunity to really change its arc by ensuring that people living with HIV and AIDS are getting the support and health care they need while now also being able to deliver health care—including HIV testing, STD screening, and PrEP—to HIV-negative individuals in L.A. County. It’s a pretty powerful combination that will have a real impact.”
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti spoke about the current HIV/AIDS crisis in the city, encouraging everyone to know their status. “We want people to go out there and take advantage of free testing, and to spread the word,” he said. The Mayor also noted his support of the trans community, a population that experiences disproportionately high rates of HIV infection. “We need trans equality in this city and in this country and in this world, today, right now, right here,” said Mayor Garcetti.
Other elected officials in attendance included: California State Senators Ricardo Lara, Isadore Hall, and Ben Allen; California State Assemblymembers Mike Gipson and Adrin Nazarian; Los Angeles County Assessor Jeffrey Prang; West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tem Lauren Meister, who spoke on behalf of the AIDS Walk host city; West Hollywood City Councilmembers John D’Amico, John Duran, and John Heilman; L.A. City Councilmember Paul Koretz; and L.A. City Controller Ron Galperin.
The Celebrities in attendance included:, Drew Carey (The Price Is Right), Lea DeLaria (Orange Is the New Black), Kim Johnson & Robert Herjavec (Dancing With the Stars), Chris Kluwe (professional NFL football player), Carson Kressley (Dancing With the Stars), Our Lady J (classical pianist, TV writer on Transparent, and singer-songwriter), Danny Pintauro (actor and HIV/AIDS activist), Jai Rodriguez (actor and musician), Ken Todd & Lisa Vanderpump (Vanderpump Rules), and Nick Wechsler (Revenge).
The Sposato Brothers sang “In My Life,” and Ashley Brown (The Sound of Music at the Ahmanson Theater) closed the program with a stirring performance of “Climb Every Mountain.”
The corporate community continued to show its strong support for the event through team fundraising and corporate sponsorship. Longtime AIDS Walk supporter ABC7 News Anchor Ellen Leyva addressed the crowd. ABC7 returned this year as AIDS Walk Los Angeles’ television broadcast sponsor.
Also in attendance were representatives from the event’s top sponsors and top corporate teams, including Premier Sponsors Quest Diagnostics and Gilead Sciences, Inc.; Grand Sponsors ABC7, the City of West Hollywood, Delta Airlines, Paramount Studios, and Paul Hastings LLP; and Principal Sponsors Albertsons|Vons|Safeway, Macy’s, Crescent Heights LLC, Time Warner Cable, Toyota, and Wells Fargo. Book Author Lourdes Duque Baron, MHA, MSG, to host Official “Scripted In Heaven” book signing at Trinitarians of Mary on July 29, 2012 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm
On Friday, July 20, 2012 World Wide Vital Marketing & Public Relations Inc. announced that Book Author Lourdes Duque Baron, MHA, MSG, to host Official “Scripted In Heaven” book signing at Convent of the Trinitarians of Mary located at 3009 East Cameron Ave., West Covina, California 91791 on July 29, 2012 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
“Somewhere in the process of putting this book together, I had a self-realization: the lost soul that I desired to save belonged to me. And so, while I penned the simple truth of our great trials and tribulations, I found God speaking to me. I found myself in the middle of a transformation.” said author Lourdes Duque Baron, MHA, MSG.
Joining Lourdes Duque Baron will be Mother Lillie and the Sisters of the Trinitarians of Mary at their newest convent in West Covina, California.
Rev. Fr. Ermelindo di Capua from San Giovanni Rotondo is schedule to attend a dedication event for St. Pio of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio) on August 25, 2012. Fr. Ermelindo has been Padre Pio’s Italian liaison to the English-speaking world.
She concluded “It was March 16, 2011. I had just finished reading The 33 Doctors of the Church by the Capuchin author Fr. Christopher Rengers, O.F.M. Cap. It was an account of the lives of saints who shaped the hearts and minds of the Catholic Church. In my study, I had a new revelation every time I came to a new page in the book, prompting me to develop this incessant need to turn to the next, to seek out the next revelation. I came to realize how little I knew of my faith and it became clear to me that I have not only been keeping Jesus at a distance, but that I have been offending my Lord for the past 64 years of my life.”

Excerpt from the book Scripted in Heaven by Lourdes D. Baron:
”It was not only Robin who experienced a transformation during his miraculous healing from cancer; together we embarked on this life-changing journey, and together, we became a stronger follower of Jesus Christ.
I conceived the idea of writing a book and penning the stories about the physical and metaphysical transformation that took place in my husband’s life when he was finally healthy enough to resume his medical practice.
There were no more check ups, no more medications to take, and therapy was over. For us, we had come to the final point in his struggle and the testament of victory. Now that Robin was healthy and life was normal again, we had tangible evidence of God’s goodness for others to see. We knew the blessing we received was a blessing that had to be shared. Moved, we rallied behind a mission: to lead lost souls to the love of Jesus Christ.”

The World Series of Poker draws in poker players from around the world in a quest to win the ever-coveted gold championship bracelet. As the popularity of poker has grown, players from all walks of life have taken up the game and among them are stars of music industry. Let’s take a look at some of the music stars that have played at the World Series of Poker.
Rapper and R&B star Nelly has made headlines over the year for playing at the WSOP. While he hasn’t made big money at the event as of yet, he did make headlines in 2010 when he made Day 2 of the event. While that is far from the title, making it through Day 1 is a step that literally thousands of players fail to accomplish and it was a good first step. Nelly is a regular at the poker tables in and around Vegas and he will likely be there this year.
Anthrax lead guitarist Scott Ian has been a regular at the WSOP Main Event for years now and has advanced past Day 1 of the event numerous times. Ian has actually shown so much promise at the poker tables that he was tutored for a while by professional poker players Phil Hellmuth and Annie Duke and even had a sponsorship with an online poker site.
However, the most successful musician to play the WSOP is Godsmack’s Sully Erna. Erna has been coming to the WSOP for years and actually made the money of the Main Event in both 2006 and 2007. His best finish was in 2007 where he place 237th. While that does not sound like a huge accomplishment, Erna still pulled in over $45,000 for his finish. Of course, that is still a far cry from the $8.25 Million that Champion Jerry Yang took home.
As poker continues to increase in popularity worldwide, don’t be surprised to see more music artist try their hand at the game. Poker is said to have the adrenaline rush of performing in front of a 100,000 screaming fans, and the Millions at stake doesn’t hurt either.
