First Amendment Coalition Receives $100k Gift from Craig Newmark Philanthropies

On June Thursday, June 20, 2019, First Amendment Coalition announces that it has received a $100,000 gift from Craig Newmark Philanthropies to support the organization’s work to defend free speech, the free press, and public participation in civic affairs. This generous and substantial commitment will enable FAC to continue to grow its programs and reach new audiences—work that is more important than ever in light of unprecedented threats to the First Amendment and the public’s right to know.

Craig Newmark, is the founder of craigslist.org and Craig Newmark Philanthropies. The gift from will support all of FAC’s programs, including its free Legal Hotline, its strategic litigation program, and its Subpoena Defense Initiative, which connects journalists with qualified pro bono counsel to defend them against subpoenas seeking confidential sources and notes.

“FAC is truly grateful to Craig Newmark Philanthropies for this generous gift, which will allow us to continue and expand our fight for speech and press freedoms, public access to government records and meetings, and civic engagement,” said FAC Executive Director David Snyder.

Also Craig Newmark said “A democracy can only thrive when the entire public participates, and is included, in a society, and that means we need people to be informed about what’s going on around them so that they can be thoughtful voters, citizens, and neighbors.”

FAC’s work has grown recently, with the addition of a Legal Fellow program and the launch and expansion of its subpoena defense work, which includes free seminars for lawyers and journalists on how to respond to civil and criminal subpoenas to journalists. Most recently, FAC arranged for counsel to represent freelance journalist Bryan Carmody, who was subject to illegal search warrants, executed by San Francisco police officers, sparking national outrage from press advocates and others. FAC has also filed a motion to unseal the search warrants used in Carmody’s case, to allow the public to see where and how SFPD failed to recognize the critical protections of California’s journalist shield law. FAC also recently led the court fight in enforcing SB 1421, the state’s new landmark police transparency law, and, on the federal front, is suing the United States Department of Justice for access to records of its collection of journalist phone and email records.

Amazon Flex Temple City – Rosemead Drivers Boycott Station

On Saturday, February 9, 2019 lots of Amazon Flex Rosemead evening shots did not show up for their 4, 5, 6 and 7 pm blocks because they have been sent far and over the San Gabriel Valley area where they sign up to deliver packages.

Amazon Flex Temple City – Rosemead has been abusing them by sending them drive all over the Lia Angeles County, Orange County, San Bernardino County and more without adding extra compensation. Yes Amazon Flex has been paying $18 and hour but the drivers has to deal with tear and wear on their cars, gas, miles, dark nights, cold, raining and hot days with no perks or benefits.

Amazon Flex drivers are not getting pay extra during the evening, weekends or holidays which a billion company like Amazon should pay to their employees or partners in this case Amazon Flex individual partners. Companies are supposed to pay extra for weekends, evening and holidays. Do you know some companies even pay more to those employees that work during those times them their 7 to 4, 8 to 5, 9 to 6 employees.

Amazon Flex do not like for Amazon Flex to give packages when they know those are opposite direction from their main route and If you return them at the end of the block they question you by been mad.

On top of that If you decide to finish your block even though you went over they don’t even want to pay you extra. If they pay you they pay you regular hourly rate but in some cases you took a surge so they need to pay at those rates.

Yes Amazon Flex has been treating better the Amazon Flex business partners because they have a van and a business but the fact is that they are doing the same work except they can take more packages but they have a week to deliver them. Amazon Flex business drivers they make $300K a year, get a branded Amazon van, uniforms, gas allowance, cellphone, extra pay and they can choose their routes while the Amazon Flex individual partners are force to drive more than 25 to 45 miles away with no extra compensation or perks.

So if you a consumer and don’t get your packages on tine call Amazon and ask for reimbursement on delivery fee also be mindful that Amazon is discriminating the hard working individual people. Amazon Flex was suppose to be a fun and relaxing gig but it has become stressful Which is making drivers sick. Amazon flex drivers don’t get breaks or lunch time even don’t have a place to pee and poo.

Perhaps Amazon Flex drivers should start a class action lawsuit against giant internet company Amazon, Jeff Bezos, their investors and board of directors? like it was ruled by a judge recently in Los Angeles county against Lyft that their drivers are not contractors when they are forced to do quotas and lots or rules that they need to follow while working in the logistics business. About Bobbie Shaw Chance:

Bobbie Shaw Chance began her acting career at only 17 years old with the help of acclaimed agent to the stars and former vice president of ICM talent management, Jack Gilardi.

Bobbie Shaw Chance aka Acting Coach to the Stars. ‘E’ Entertainment began her legendary career starring in the “Beach Party Films” as a young ingénue with Franky Avalon. She went on to star with Rob Reiner academy award winning Richard Dreyfus and Larry Bishop. With an ever-changing group of talent coming through the door from new up-and-comers to soon to be famous celebrities including; Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff, Breckin Myer, Devon Aoki, Scarlett Johansson, Drew Barrymore, Taryn Manning and more, Expressions Unlimited now known as Hollywood Actor’s Showcase became a staple in Hollywood.

Mr. Shahbod Noori promised to pay the loan back by June 30, 2015 by giving a post dated check dated 6-30-2015 in the amount of $17.000.00 to Mr. Escobar. As you may have seen earlier today Monday, June 29, 2015 our breaking news story on NBCUniversal dropping Miss USA and Miss Universe beauty pageants from the networks due to the derogatory statements on Immigrants made by it’s co-owner and producer Mr. Donald J. Trump. Also Mexico’s Televisa and Carlos Slim from Ora TV ends relationship with Miss Universe.

To be fair and heard both sides, we contacted Miss Universe Organization in New York, NY to get a statement and here is what we received, you can see it and read below their statement. You can read that Miss Universe Organization (MUO) is trying to separate from Mr. Donald J. Trump Sr.

The 2015 MISS USA® Pageant will still take place in Baton Rouge on July 12th. We are disheartened by recent events but the show will go on.

The Miss Universe Organization operates as an independent company. In its 64 year history, and under many owners, Miss Universe has developed into a globally recognized brand, with nearly 150 franchise holders domestically and internationally, the majority of whom are small business owners.

The Miss Universe Organization is built on a foundation of inclusion and continues to be a celebration of diversity and of all cultures. This year’s Miss USA contestants represent many different ethnic backgrounds, including six Latinas (four of whom are of Mexican descent).

Breaking News: Same Sex Marriage is Legal in All the States of the United States of America

On Friday, June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court, the highest court of the United States rules that Same Sex Marriage banning was unconstitutional.

CNN.com reported: In a landmark opinion, a divided Supreme Court on Friday ruled that same-sex couples can marry nationwide, establishing a new civil right and handing gay rights advocates a historic victory.

In the 5-4 ruling, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote for the majority with the four liberal justices. Each of the four conservative justices wrote their own dissent.

Also on Wikipedia states the following: On June 26, 2015, the United States became the twenty-first and most populous country to legalize same-sex marriage, following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. The court ruled that the denial of marriage licenses to same-sex couples violates the Due Process and the Equal Protection clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. The ruling overturned a previous precedent, Baker v. Nelson.
Starting in 2003, various lower court decisions, state legislation, and popular referendums had already legalized same-sex marriage to some degree in thirty-seven out of fifty U.S. states, in one U.S. territory, and in the District of Columbia. Federal benefits were previously extended to lawfully married same-sex couples following the Supreme Court’s June 2013 decision in United States v. Windsor.

On the same day celebrations were held all over the United States of America.

Per The Ventura County Star reported on September 9, 2013 the following: Two Port Hueneme police officers used a Taser on a Thousand Oaks man before fatally shooting him early Friday, officials said.

According to police, Michael De Luca, 53, was shot and killed about 4:15 a.m. in the 500 block of Surfside Drive.

“Saddened by the news of the passing of my dear friend pro boxer Golden Gloves Champion and photographer Mike Duke De Luca. Duke was a stand-up guy who was a source of inspiration to me showing how to always keep your chin up and keep up the fight for whatever struggle one deals with. RIP Duke! You were a Real Champ!!!” ~Tom Slack.

Also ABC 7 Los Angeles reports that: Port Hueneme police say former bodyguard Michael Deluca claimed he had a gun before officers fatally shot him during a confrontation last week.

I can add that on September 9, 2013 I contacted the Media Relations Officer of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office asking why he was shot and this is the response I received:

Hi Esteban,

Thanks for your email. The Sheriff’s Office did not handle any part of the investigation. Our Crime Lab Scientists are working on the evidence related to this case, which is protocol for law enforcement agencies throughout the County for this type of investigation.

I worked with Michael Deluca 3 years ago when him and Patrice Ryan covered Shine On 2 Hollywood at Celebrity Center in Hollywood, CA. He enjoyed covering events and editing his footage. My prayers and condolences to his family especially his sons. Michael Deluca Sr. aka Duke De Luca Rest In Peace and GOD will protect you always.

About Mike De Luca: Mike “The Duke” De Luca was a Boxer, Director/Videographer/Editor/Actor.
Mike De Luca was born in 1959 with the name Michael Maloney. William Maloney was his step-father. Michael grew up in the Bronx, New York and relocated to Long Island when he was 11 years old. He briefly attended Eastern Kentucky University to pursue a future in Law Enforcement. Mike won the New York State Golden Gloves at Madison Square Garden in 1979 as a 19 year old, 197 lb. heavyweight. He fought, and knocked out Harry Keitt (“On The Ropes”) in 42 seconds of the first round. He went on to take a silver metal in The Empire State Games the following year. He could not fight for the gold because of a broken hand. Mike drove out to California in 1981. He eventually became a Pro Boxer (managed by actor, producer Tony Danza). This was the proper opportunity for Mike to obtain his real father’s surname, De Luca. Mike was a professional bodyguard from 1984-1989. On May 21, 2013 Eric Garcetti was elected Mayor of Los Angeles with 53.9% of votes. His term will begin in July 2013. Eric Michael Garcetti (born February 4, 1971) is the mayor-elect of Los Angeles and an outgoing member of the Los Angeles City Council, representing the 13th District.^[1] He served as Council President from 2006 to 2012.^[2]

Garcetti is the son of the former Los Angeles County District Attorney Gil Garcetti. A member of the Democratic Party, Garcetti won in a nonpartisan election for Mayor on May 21, 2013, defeating city Controller Wendy Greuel;^[3] Garcetti is the city’s first elected Jewish mayor and its youngest in more than a century.

Kennedy New Frontier Award for Americans under 40 who are changing their communities with a commitment to public service; the Green Cross Millennium Award from former President Mikhail Gorbachev, for environmental leadership; a “Tiger Award” from the Valley Industry and Commerce Association, for his work on business tax reform; the New Democrat of the Week recognition from the Democratic Leadership Council, for his work on safety in commercial office buildings and security officers’ working conditions; and the first Olson Award from Human Rights Watch for his human rights activism.

The Los Angeles Times writes that Garcetti is “smart” and “imaginative” and offers the city “refreshing idealism.” He was featured in LA Weekly’s Best of Los Angeles issue and the Los Angeles Alternative Press readers named him “L.A.’s Favorite Elected Official” of 2003.
