City of Los Angeles Announces New LGBTQ Certification For Business Assistance Virtual Network

On Tuesday, June 25, 2019, The City of Los Angeles announced the addition of LGBTQ certification to the Los Angeles Business Assistance Virtual Network(BAVN). BAVN is a free online portal provided by the City of Los Angeles and the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development that connects businesses with City contracting opportunities. The new qualifications will allow for statistical tracking of certifications to ensure that contracts reflect the diversity of the City.

“I applaud the City’s efforts to expand opportunities in public procurement for our local business community. LGBTQ certification is another step towards further leveling the playing field for small and diverse businesses,” said Los Angeles Board of Public Works President Kevin James. “BAVN is a free and accessible resource that allows us to provide these businesses with the proper tools to succeed and thrive in Los Angeles.”

The National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce is the exclusive, third-party certification body that will work to verify that eligible businesses are majority-owned by LGBTQ individuals. Once this process is complete, businesses can sign up through BAVN to be notified when contracts are available for bidding and receive guidance through the bidding process. The Bureau of Contract Administration, led by Inspector of Public Works John L. Reamer, Jr., verifies documentation and oversees contracts for the City of Los Angeles.

BAVN currently offers certification for disadvantaged business owners; disabled veterans; minority-owned businesses; women-owned businesses; small, emerging, and local businesses; and more. This allows small and diverse businesses the opportunity to compete with large corporations for contracts. The new LGBTQ certification program will go into effect in the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2019-20 beginning on July 1st.

This announcement comes during the annual celebration of LGBTQ Heritage Month. Additionally, the Los Angeles Board of Public Works recognized a few of the outstanding men and women from the Department of Public Works as part of the month’s festivities.

“Los Angeles has been at the forefront of championing equality since 1967 when Silver Lake’s Black Cat became the site of one of the first LGBTQ demonstrations,” said Los Angeles Board of Public Works Vice President Cecilia Cabello. “While tremendous strides have been made since then, the fight for equal opportunity continues. I’m honored to recognize a few of our LGBTQ brothers and sisters who dedicate their lives to enhancing the quality of life for Angelenos and advocating for inclusiveness in the workplace and beyond.”

The LGBTQ Heritage Month honorees were recognized for their professional accomplishments and contributions to raising awareness of human and civil rights in and out of the workplace. From maintaining our streets and sewers to fixing potholes and collecting trash, these honorees are making a significant impact in their respective fields:

  • Gaye Chapman, Senior Electrical Inspector, Bureau of Contract Administration: serves as lead project inspector for the L.A. Wastewater Integrated Network Systems (LAWINS) project involving multiple wastewater facilities. She also provides training and guidance to other Bureau of Contract Administration inspectors.

  • Doug Walters, Chief Sustainability Officer & Chief Resiliency Officer, LA Sanitation and Environment: a proven leader in sustainability and environmental issues who formerly served as Co-Chair of the City’s Gay & Lesbian United Employees organization where he spent 4 years advocating for inclusionary policies for LGBTQ employees within City Departments.

  • Les Amer, Accounting Clerk, StreetsLA: supports the street pavement preservation program and sidewalk construction program. His work ensures the delivery of materials essential to paving more than 2,200 lane miles and constructing 500,000 square feet of sidewalks annually.

Amazon Flex Temple City – Rosemead Drivers Boycott Station

On Saturday, February 9, 2019 lots of Amazon Flex Rosemead evening shots did not show up for their 4, 5, 6 and 7 pm blocks because they have been sent far and over the San Gabriel Valley area where they sign up to deliver packages.

Amazon Flex Temple City – Rosemead has been abusing them by sending them drive all over the Lia Angeles County, Orange County, San Bernardino County and more without adding extra compensation. Yes Amazon Flex has been paying $18 and hour but the drivers has to deal with tear and wear on their cars, gas, miles, dark nights, cold, raining and hot days with no perks or benefits.

Per Wikipedia it list the San Gabriel Valley as following:

The San Gabriel Valley is in Los Angeles County. The incorporated cities and unincorporated neighborhoods of the San Gabriel Valley include:

Amazon Flex drivers are not getting pay extra during the evening, weekends or holidays which a billion company like Amazon should pay to their employees or partners in this case Amazon Flex individual partners. Companies are supposed to pay extra for weekends, evening and holidays. Do you know some companies even pay more to those employees that work during those times them their 7 to 4, 8 to 5, 9 to 6 employees.

Amazon Flex do not like for Amazon Flex to give packages when they know those are opposite direction from their main route and If you return them at the end of the block they question you by been mad.

On top of that If you decide to finish your block even though you went over they don’t even want to pay you extra. If they pay you they pay you regular hourly rate but in some cases you took a surge so they need to pay at those rates.

Yes Amazon Flex has been treating better the Amazon Flex business partners because they have a van and a business but the fact is that they are doing the same work except they can take more packages but they have a week to deliver them. Amazon has been offering on it is logistics website the following perks:

Access to exclusive deals
Leveraging Amazon’s deals makes the entire setup process easy. We’ve negotiated exclusive deals on startup assets and ongoing business management services with top-in- class third-party providers to help you get your business started for as little as $10,000.
• Amazon-branded vehicles customized for delivery
• Vehicle maintenance
• Vehicle insurance
• Fuel program
• Professional uniforms
• Industrial-grade handheld devices
• Recruitment tool discounts
• Payroll, tax, and accounting services
• Health benefits and employee services • Legal support

Amazon Flex business drivers they make $300K a year, get a branded Amazon van, uniforms, gas allowance, cellphone, extra pay and they can choose their routes while the Amazon Flex individual partners are force to drive more than 25 to 45 miles away with no extra compensation or perks.

So if you a consumer and don’t get your packages on tine call Amazon and ask for reimbursement on delivery fee also be mindful that Amazon is discriminating the hard working individual people. Amazon Flex was suppose to be a fun and relaxing gig but it has become stressful Which is making drivers sick. Amazon flex drivers don’t get breaks or lunch time even don’t have a place to pee and poo.

Perhaps Amazon Flex drivers should start a class action lawsuit against giant internet company Amazon, Jeff Bezos, their investors and board of directors? like it was ruled by a judge recently in Los Angeles county against Lyft that their drivers are not contractors when they are forced to do quotas and lots or rules that they need to follow while working in the logistics business. You can read

Los Angeles Times article published on April 30, 2018 headline: California’s top court makes it more difficult for employers to classify workers as independent contractors.

Rosemead station needs help to organize blocks or route because they are giving routes of blocks out of the service area such as North Hollywood, Compton, Buena Park, Bell Flower etc. Rosemead station is supposed to service the following areas in the San Gabriel Valley

Altadena

Alhambra

Arcadia

Avocado Heights

Azusa

Baldwin Park

Bassett

Bradbury

Charter Oak

Citrus

City of Industry

Claremont

Covina

Diamond Bar

Duarte

East Pasadena

El Monte

Glendora

Hacienda Heights

Hillgrove

Irwindale

La Puente

La Verne

Mayflower Village

Monrovia

Monterey Park

North El Monte

Pasadena

Pomona

Rosemead

Rowland Heights

San Dimas

San Gabriel

San Marino

San Pasqual

Sierra Madre

South El Monte

South Pasadena

South San Gabriel

South San Jose Hills

Temple City

Valinda

Vincent

Walnut

West Covina

West Puente Valley

That’s why those drivers sign up to drive in their communities.

Amazon Flex Drivers are contractors should not be force to do quantity or drive areas that they did not sign up for because they are not employees of Amazon.

So consumers may need to think twice before you agree to buy Amazon products and pay for delivery.

About Bobbie Shaw Chance:

Bobbie Shaw Chance began her acting career at only 17 years old with the help of acclaimed agent to the stars and former vice president of ICM talent management, Jack Gilardi.

Bobbie Shaw Chance aka Acting Coach to the Stars. ‘E’ Entertainment began her legendary career starring in the “Beach Party Films” as a young ingénue with Franky Avalon. She went on to star with Rob Reiner academy award winning Richard Dreyfus and Larry Bishop. In “The Session” New York and Los Angeles’s first improvisational comedy group that ultimately paved the way for future successful shows of its kind, such as “Saturday Night Live” and “Who’s line is it anyway.”

When “The Session” split up, Bobbie married writer Larry Chance, had 2 children Allison and Richard, starred in five independent feature films and began her crusade with The Abused Children’s Foundation in conjunction with The Free Arts for abused children. She invented a process by incorporating Theater games and on-stage improvisation as a means to treat the children’s emotional wounds. As a result Bobbie has been successful in getting hundreds of children to open up and learn to trust others through the arts.

In 1990, while raising her two children Allison and Richie with her Husband, Larry, Bobbie opened the Hollywood Actor’s Showcase, LLC formerly Expressions Unlimited actors workshop in Sherman Oaks, California. With an ever-changing group of talent coming through the door from new up-and-comers to soon to be famous celebrities including; Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff, Breckin Myer, Devon Aoki, Scarlett Johansson, Drew Barrymore, Taryn Manning and more, Expressions Unlimited now known as Hollywood Actor’s Showcase became a staple in Hollywood.

Over the years, leading television networks have and continue to cast Bobbie as Hollywood’s acting guru on show’s such as WB’s hit show “The Starlet” with Faye Dunaway and Vivica A. Fox, as well as “Faking It” for TLC. “Fight for Fame” on “E” Entertainment. “Family Crews” for BET, Eva Longoria’s pilot “Beso: Waiting to be Famous“, Dr. Phil’s “Decision House“,  “R & B Divas” and 2 episodes of “Keeping up with the Kardashians“. E! Entertainment has even dubbed her as, “Acting Coach to the Stars”.

Ready To Make Your Picks For Super Bowl 51?

READY TO MAKE YOUR PICKS FOR SUPER BOWL 51 - Diversity News Magazine SportsJust as soon as Super Bowl 50 came to a close, the world started thinking about Super Bowl 51. According to the sportsbooks, the usual suspects will be right back in the thick of things in 2017. Tom Brady and the New England Patriots (+800) are followed by Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks (+900). They’re then being pursued by the Carolina Panthers (+900), Pittsburgh Steelers (+1,000), Green Bay Packers (+1,200), Arizona Cardinals (+1,400), Cincinnati Bengals (+1,600) and the Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos (+1,600).

Not surprisingly, similar odds are listed across the net. The favorites are the favorites, there’s no other way about it. All of the oddsmakers listed at this sportsbook review site say the same. The Patriots are favored, followed by a Seahawks and Panthers tie. So in other words, we could be looking at an instant replay of the 2015 playoffs. Things could end up shaking down in the exact same fashion. Although, there will be a few changes to take note of.

In Seattle, the days of ‘Beast Mode’ are no more. Marshawn Lynch has announced his retirement and is moving on from the game. The Seahawks are moving on as well. They’ll now put the starting running back reins in the hands of Thomas Rawls. They’ll also likely have starting tight end Jimmy Graham back for the postseason. So expect Seattle to be a stronger looking crew up front.

Another rebuilt team will be the New England Patriots. Well, not exactly rebuilt, mind you. They will have most of the same players, but they’ll also likely be healthy. Meaning their postseason roster will look very different from its 2016 rendition. At running back, Dion Lewis and LaGarrette Blount will return to help carry the load, literally. If all goes according to plan, the team will also look to have a healthy Julian Edelman at wide receiver for more than just nine games next season as well.

The biggest change will come in Denver. It appears that the Denver Broncos are looking to move on from Peyton Manning, regardless of what he decides to do with his future. This means that Brock Osweiler will be in the driver seat. He filled in for Manning this past season and posted a 5-2 record. He also put up far better numbers than the aging quarterback across the board. The only downside, is that he does not have the experience of Manning. Combine that with the possibility of losing Super Bowl 50 MVP linebacker Von Miller to free agency, and the Broncos could be looking at a pretty big setback next season.

The 31st Annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles 2015 Raised $2,375,946 at Event

Celebrities, elected leaders, and 20,000 other caring people united to raise funds for much needed HIV/AIDS services and prevention programs.

On Sunday, October 11, 2015, MZA Events held their 31st annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles in West Hollywood Park at 647 N San Vicente Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.

More than 20, 0000 caring celebrities, elected leaders, corporations, small business and caring participants showed unity to raise funds, education, find the cure for HIV/AIDS and awareness for our next generations with new services and prevention programs.

“Today’s high temperatures did not stop our supporters from turning out in massive numbers and raising $2,375,946,” said AIDS Walk Founder and Senior Organizer Craig R. County. It’s a pretty powerful combination that will have a real impact.”
